Ewald. Irene Ada (4 Feb. 1915 - 15 Nov. 1997)

Irene Ada Ewald, 82, of 11602 County Trunk Y, Auburndale, died Nov. 15, 1997, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ in Colby. The Rev. David Dahlke, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Auburndale, will officiate.

Burial will be in Colby Memorial Cemetery in the town of Colby, Clark County. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Doug Ewald, Tyson Treankler, Jim Ruppert, Tom Ruppert, Steve Ruppert and Justin Kauffman.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Community Funeral Home of Colby assisted the family with arrangements.

Irene was born Feb. 4, 1915, in the town of Hull, Marathon County, to Alvin and Anna (Kunze) Brehm. She graduated from Colby, Wis. High School in 1932. Irene and Gordon Ewald were married Nov. 22, 1933, in Waukegan, Ill. He died Dec. 23, 1979. They farmed west of Unity.

Irene enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Auburndale.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Marge) Ewald of Milwaukee and Gary (Dee) Ewald of Abbotsford; three daughters, Judy (Sonny) Krings of Auburndale, Jane (Stan) Jarzin of Colby and Mary Ann (Dwain Day) Kauffman of Portage; nine grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson, Greg Ewald.
